okay, so youd suggest that i toss in just worms, shrimp talapia and pellets until he starts eating basically?
Well, if you plan on feeding it pellets, then you need to get it on those first, because it will probably be most reluctant to accept those. And I would just throw in a few once every few days rather than every day, because if it takes a while to start accepting them (which they usually do), then you'll just end up with a bunch of uneaten pellets decaying in the water.

okay good call on feeding pellets first. although what ever falls to the bottom will get eaten by some other tank occupants.

Hmmm...no one mentioned jumping. Make sure your top is well sealed and secured. You'd be surprised how small of a hole an arowana can fit through. They are also very powerful and can move or break aquarium tops, so weighting or latching is a must.

Since you have researched, you may already know this. Silver aros grow 1 -1.5" per month on average, with spurts of even 3" per month not being uncommon. Be prepared to be able to house a 24" monster within about a year.

Ya, aware of the jumping and the growth rate, thanks tho! I am gonna be capable of housing a monster in the next year, cant wait! thanks everyone!

Yes. The colour eventually fades.

not for my arowana. Instead, it gets more red with age. Well, with mine not sure about others.

To the OP: be patient with your new member of the house.
Feed it the best foods possible, WC frequent and try to encourage it to be the arowana it's meant to be.
Just be prepared, these fishes can get violent if provoked.

Lying on the sand sounds like a bit of stress dude , my aro fluffy did it wen i was change him over tank,if he doesnt eat straight away dnt worry , wen i stressed mine he wudnt eat for a day or so but he'll get hungry in his time. i started mine at 4/5" on white bait chopped up , one a day main feedin , 2 feedins of some pellets a day , never had any issues with feedin my aro anything. i tend to keep mixin it up every few months , got shrimp tonight for a change.fluffys red tint has faded alot but if u annoy him hell show it again.Good luck with the aro dude :D

Hey, so id like to formally say hello to all other arowana keepers for I am now a proud owner of a little silver arow! Now, ive done my homework but i just have a few questions of my own.
First off, hes about 7 or 8 inches, got him last night, he obviously hasnt eaten yet, but im wondering what i should start him on? The goal is to get him to start up eating shrimp, worms and talapia of the bottom of the tank.
Also, is it normal for arows to lay on the bottom of the tank? I came down stairs this morning to look at the tank and hes basically laying on the sand, perhaps resting? As soon as the lights flicked on he got up and started swimming like usual.
One last question, is it normal for young silvers to have a red tint to them throughout they're whole tail? Or have i lucked out by getting a silver with perhaps some traces of red arow in him?
Any input is appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Hey King.. all the best with your new aro.. what are his/her tankmates at the moment.. how big is your tank.. any pics.. the biggest question about food is would you be able to provide the same(money wise) for a long period of time.. shrimps, tilapia, pellets are great.. you could try feeders occasionally.. once a month.. my aros used to do the lying down at the bottom of the tank when they were around the same size.. but now they really dont.. they get used to the environment and people over a period of time.. by lights do you mean tank lights or the room light.. if you have your tank indoors or outdoors and plan on switching off the tank lights at night jus leave a little night lamp on around the tank.. the red depends on the feed and the fish.. some lose it some retain traces.. all the best again.. cheers..

Your aro looks like any other aro now, from what I seen in the video you posted. Thing is yours was very pale when it was small, not colorful like a typical juvie silver.

hes doing a lot better, no more sleeping on the sand not really as skittish in the tank. to answer some of your questions, hes in a 180g with a motoro and retic pup, 2X discus, 2X angel, clown loach, and some other little guys like tetras and danios ( dont ask how they havent become sushi yet ). providing for them financially will just be getting easier and easier for me. I expect to get a even bigger monster tank in the next year or so as well. and when i said lights i meant tank lights, which are on a schedule, they slowly turn on, stay on for 9 hours and then slowly turn off again.
once again, thanks everyone for the help
