when i said lights i meant tank lights, which are on a schedule, they slowly turn on, stay on for 9 hours and then slowly turn off again.

great mate.. good you can provide for in the longer run.. is there any way you could run the schedule not to switch off but fade to a point before switchin off.. my experience with my aros is that they feel comfy with a light around..

sorry, a little confused there. what happens is the lights will will slowly turn off, one by one over a period of 30 mins until its completely dark in the tank. Same for when they turn on just works in the opposite manner of course.

does that help at all tho? I mean, in their natural environment at night it would be completly dark, or at least a little light from the moon and stars and thats more or less what were trying to recreate here right, their natural environment?

Your aro is now being kept in the farthest thing from it's natural environment. Unless the aro is in a tank with no tank mates and in a room with no movement, it would be best to have some sort of night lighting. Even then your aro may become easily spooked by movement, both in and out of the tank, at night.

exactly what i wanted to say too..

ok, sounds like a plan, how about a black light for a night light? would that do?

Hey King.. all the best with your new aro.. what are his/her tankmates at the moment.. how big is your tank.. any pics.. the biggest question about food is would you be able to provide the same(money wise) for a long period of time.. shrimps, tilapia, pellets are great.. you could try feeders occasionally.. once a month.. my aros used to do the lying down at the bottom of the tank when they were around the same size.. but now they really dont.. they get used to the environment and people over a period of time.. by lights do you mean tank lights or the room light.. if you have your tank indoors or outdoors and plan on switching off the tank lights at night jus leave a little night lamp on around the tank.. the red depends on the feed and the fish.. some lose it some retain traces.. all the best again.. cheers..
I disagree on the feeders idea. Feeders do more harm than good unless you are breeding them yourself (and if you were breeding them yourself, you'd probably be using them more than once per month_.

ya, im nether one for feeders, ive got a few rays which ive had for quiet a while and im not about to introduce and feeders or anything of that matter which could be carrying disease or parasites,

Your aro looks like any other aro now, from what I seen in the video you posted. Thing is yours was very pale when it was small, not colorful like a typical juvie silver.

it still has red colour lining around the scales.
Is not dark, like any other, but light on the silver side. Not sure what 'colourful' means to you. Some times, your input on aros is really bias'ed.

I'm surprised no one has attacked the OP about tank size.
