just got my first arowana, do's and dont's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
they are suicidal. they eat anything given weather its good for them or not. dont over feed (same as for any fish) they can grow up to 3 inches a month for the first 3-5 months. there one of the coolest fish out there. :)

buy floating feed so they do not get drop eye, buy clean feeder fish for good growth and enjoy the hell out of them , like any fish you own try to learn as much as you can over time. This is a never ending trip.
good luck

My aro is about 14 inches long now and eats pretty much anything. I like to feed it smelts, hold it just above the water surface and let him snatch it. That is awesome....probably till he gets bigger or catches my finger....or my hand for that fact

Small like, it still has a yolk sack under it, small? You may need to grow it out in a smaller aquarium with live guppies or brine shrimp. Do you have a heater in your aquarium? Baby's do poorly in water not warm enough. High 80 degrees even. I kept my temp @ about 89 degrees. Do small water changes a couple times a week and clean up uneaten food daily. The warmth will increase his metabolism and he should eat more.

I would never usually say things like this. But i am shocked that you have purchased an arowana, with out at all researching about its care.

I think you need to google asap. there is much to tell of its care, most of which needs to be from basic googling.
or the sticky care section on here.
posts i believe should be saved for specific questions.
