  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
its a pure brown birchir, cant manage to figure out how to get a pic cuz hes hiding all the time but hes solid brown for the most part, dont know if that helps in identifying the species.

as of right now their all eating the sinking shrimp pellets, frozen white worms and the new life spectrum cichlid pellets. any advise on what kind of veggie formula yall would recommend.

add another thing, how can i sex them at this size? if its possible

The bichir your talking about is probably a senegal, actually im 100% sure it probably is, and about the sexing i mean not really youll have to wait till they grow a bit more.

thats what i figured it was, what the largest growing birchir and IYO the prettiest, pics would be great

and damn was hoping i could tell now

i believe the largest growing is the Ornate, over 2 feet if properly cared for (tanksize/clean water/feeding) but i do personally like the ornate/endi/delhezi....check them up on search plenty of pics

Yeah, you're right. Senegals are actually one of the smaller polypterus members. The Senegal only grows to about 12" from what I've found and heard. Ornates get twice as big.

By the way, congrats on the new set up. I have something KINDA similar....just got a 3" Senegal a week ago, put it in with a 4" GT and some giant danio in a 55g. Anyway, I don't know about this magical 1" per month growth rate but I feed the GT brine shrimp, veggies, bloodworms, and Xtreme pellets (terrible brand name, great food) and this guy has been growing much more slowly than that. Either way, mix up the diet and change the water relatively frequently (~once a week), and your GT will love you.

green terrors usually max out around 10 inches, the cories prob around 3, ...

My 26g planted has 4 Emerald Cory Cats in it, and their sizes are 2in, 3in, 3in, and 4.5in. All are the same age, fed the same, and have always been in the same tank. I feed them w/e leftover flake food the Mollies drop, and African Cichlid "attack" pellets. They LOVE 'em, and may attribute to the size. Point is, they can most definitely grow over 3 inches.

Far as GT's go... they grow WAY too darn slow for me to enjoy them. Cool looking fish, not much for personality though.

^----I totally agree, love the fish but such a slow grower IMO

Not if you feed them growth pellets..had an inch a month while I had mine
You think I didn't try a lot? Heavy feeding, changing lots of water etc. Mine just grow slow..
Mine reached 8 inch after 2 years, the Midas in the same tank reached it within 4 months.
