I think max is around 10 -15 years for most big cichlids.

thanks guys and gals, will be missed very much... ive rotated my entire stock on him for the last few years, lost our tanks centre piece and our friend... had several batches of fry from him in the community with very little aggression from him, he ruled the tank for 3 years without being a bully and settling arguments amongst others, he gave me some great youtube videos too, was a joy as he peeled continuously....

gutted, two days ago he started swimming on his side with no real control and the others (large butti and midas) had attacked i seperated of the other two and medicated for swim bladder disease and this morning he was hardly moving floating upside down... went to work hoping to see an improvement when i got home but came home to a barely alive fish panting with cloudy eyes and looking like a dead fish all pale. he let me pick him outta the water with no struggle at all, 15 min ago i bagged him up and slipped him in the freezer... had him for about 5 years and he was about a year old when i got him...
the greatest fish i ever had the pleasure of enjoying.
Hey man, i know I'm late but sorry for the loss. A great fish and a showpiece example of your great ability in fish keeping!
