Just how big does a pleco get...

I found a little one once in an aquarium ornament at a day care center. It was about 4 inches long, had been living in 2 inches of filthy water, no food, no air. Rescued it, took it home. Turned into a 10 inch terror of a digger. Amazing, the conditions some of these fish can survive in. Wild ones would be enormous. Wouldn't mind seeing some fish in their native environment, but I'm not much of a traveler.

Longshot, what part of texas do you live in? I used to live in Abilene back when I was in high school.

San Marcos, if you want to see them, bring some goggles.

I've caught all kinds of pet store critters in the rivers over here. Mostly Malaysian Trumpet snails and ram's horn apple snails, plecos, tilapia...

I don't do any fishing in the rivers here, but I guess there might be some wild ones here, too. Supposedly some huge cats near the dams, no reason why there couldn't be plecos too. A 3 foot pleco is a little bigger than what I am looking for.

Don't know about cooking a pleco, but I've got a Jaguar/Freddy hybrid would probably make a nice meal. I call channel cats, grow your own catfish dinners. I imagine pleco would be a bit tough.

I knew somebody that would use a long marinade syringe and inject it the length the the epaxial muscle. Then they threw them on the grill whole. I never ate it but they said it was good aside from all the work to get to the meat.

That sounds so tasty! If you're going to grow a cat for food, I would think a channel or a red tail cat might taste better. First problem I can see is, you have to kill them first. I've had some cats that were determined to outlive me.

That had to have been in a huge setup. As it is, I feel like my 75 and 30 tanks are goldfish bowls compared to a lot of the other people on here.
