I don't have experience with invertebrates on the whole. Is there any special food he'll need? He ought to eat my guppies, right? Any vegetables or leaves they eat?

I figure they only live a few years, so I'll expect fast growth. What is the ideal temp? Any other concerns?

He'll be in a 55 with a 5" raphael, a giant otto, guppies and a male molly. I figure that the livebearers will be food, but will he hurt the catfish?

AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! It looks like he has a spider-like parasite inside of him! He was just poking at it with his legs! Can anyone show me well-lit pictures of a normal Blue Prawn? For the love of God, please! It's so creeeeeeeepy inside him!

Well, he scouted the tank and seems to have found a spot he likes. He's sort of preening himself all over.
I cut some acrylic and covered the tank better.
How long before he starts picking off guppies? I'm kind of eager to see him in action, you know?
I found some pictures. Not a parasite.
Tank is at 81º F.
Lots of algae and some baby guppies, some mama guppies.
I don't know anything about shrimp. Where's the school at, folks?

I'm trying to research this and getting nowhere.

Hold on. I've found petshrimp.com. He could be a red macro. Would either of these shrimp sit outside a catfish's cave and nibble at its tail? I'm afraid that might be happening. But not sure. He might just be trying to enter it and being shoved back out...

Just in case anyone cares, he was stressing out the catfish. No obvious signs of damage, just wiggle-and-freak on the fish. The shrimp is in a fry catcher awaiting......

Wow. This is the first time I've gotten no help at all from thousands of people at once. I know what to do.

What's a good recipe for home-fried shrimp? Is olive oil okay to fry him in?

dude post and wait!!!! some of us work!! i work for 24 hours. so when i go to work there is no action from me for 24 hours. unfortunatly i dont know too much on this subject. But i do know he will most likly catch guppies soon. and probbably eat your catfish.

Really? A two-inch shrimp would nibble a five-inch catfish down to nothing if allowed to?

Thanks for answering, BTW.

To be clear are we talking about a crayfish or a shrimp?

As far as the regular shrimp that I have had and researched they are really just scavengers and normally only go after dead or dieing fish other wise they clean around for left over food.

If we are talking about a crayfish they will go after anything they can get their claws on including healthy fish.

And you may want to decrease caffeine by a couple of cups :)

:)

It looks just like a red macro. The claws are too thin for a crayfish, unless there are crayfish I haven't seen. And there probably are. Any chance he will stop picking on the catfish? I might try again today...
