Hey,
wild ones will get about 35cm+.
The captive strains will most likely not reach the full size.
Also Pearsei become massive (high back).

Problem with barbs is that they are perfectly shaped food for my eel which already killed a 7cm Hyphessobrycon anisitsi when he just was 30cm long.
He should grow to about 50-60cm which makes a LOT of species potential food (well my dels could prey on fish as well but they don't. They are all spoiled and not wildcaught)
If this wouln't be an issue I'd keep Sahyadria denisonii!
Great fish but they'd have to be adult to have even a chance in there.

Ich love Herichthys carpintis BUT I am just not successful in keeping juveniles.
Tried 4 times within the last 3 years and it never worked out.
They'd just stop growing and die off slowly.
Problem is I can't tell why this happened since was keeping multiple different CA cichlids in multiple tanks which all did fantastic.
Just the Herichthys would show these issues.

Andinoacara could be an option but I am simply not a fan of them plus their behaviour isn't that different from Astronotus.

What about borcourti?

Spanner barbs are hench...
I was lucky enough to find large ones...
I will post a video of my 300, the dovii hybrid is going soon so no flaming!-(

Great tank size!
Love the catfish in the front it should be a Pimelodus am I right?
Last time I saw Barbodes lateristriga available was in a store that closed in... I guess 2014?
If I'd order them I would get juveniles which will lead to several months in a growout.
You get what I am saying.

Bocourti are fantastic!
But as far as I know they are able to grow to a maximum of 40cm (like pearsei) and require more space due to their active behaviour.
Plus I've never seen them on the stock of one of my fishdealers... not a single time.

I know it's quite a hard topic right now but that's why I created this thread.

Yeah your right, he is a blochii aka four lined.
Hmm it is difficult, well I'm not sure what else I can offer. Spanner barbs are rare here too tbh.
Does no one do rapps or cota orders too Germany?

6:54 in the morning after a whole night in the fishroom thinking about this topic I came to following:
As much as I love oscars this is not the time or not the tank I will keep them in.
The dats are still young no reason to give up on them.
I'm lucky as hell to even own 4 silver dats which are eating well and keep growing without any big concerns.
Ok they are shy but that might change and if not?
If not I'll get rid of a small tank and get another 6,5ft tank to keep those darn oscars!

BUT I will get 4 Heros severus Red Spotted juveniles which I will grow out in a 50gal.
After reaching a certain size I will try to house them with the dats.
If this doesn't work out it's still fine and I've got 4 red spotted Heros to highlight in another tank.

Large cichlids are beautiful no doubt but with already keeping my little Thai Silk upstairs there is no need to add "water puppies" to every tank.
'Cause if I do I will not be able to focus on everyone equally.
With Heros it's not that not being able to keep them in that tank would completely frick me over like it would do with let's say Astronotus or Vieja which I would NOT have suitable tanks for already set up in my house.
