Glad to hear your L. thayeri aren't psycho. Mine haven't been either. I got a group of six from John (snookn21) and they're living happily in my 210 with large sevs and a chocolate cichlid. They tend to be very social and stick together -- from what I can see, it's five males and a female.

I may have a good deal on some discus for you. I'm the co-owner of SimplyDiscus.com and I'm currently raising out a group of six albino golden discus for our yearly Discus Hobbyist Challenge. The challenge ends on June 1 and then I'll have six small adult discus to re-home.

Like jgentry said, black backgrounds and substrate are not good for discus colors... except albinos, which lack black pigment and therefore do not turn sooty on black backgrounds. ;) You have the perfect water for them, you just need to keep them warm (about 82 - 84F) and do frequent large water changes. In a lightly stocked 125g you could probably get away with 50% a week.

So now you have something to mull over. lol.

Jump on that Peter. A group of 8 discus, a small school of some tetra, group of warm water cories, some BN pleco's. Tank stocked!!!

I learn something new all the time. I did not know that about albino discus. Never kept any albino's but not sure I would have known that even if I had. Ryan is right Peter, your water is perfect for them. When in Rome!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Loves_severums, but just thought I'd throw out another idea, maybe a pair of Green Terrors, those would look nice.

Finally some love for GT! I think a pair will do great. FSM has a male in a 75 with black sand and he looks stunning :) Will have to bump up pH big time though, but it's easy.

On another note, the L. thateri pair seem to like their new home. 3 days in the tank and their already laid a clutch of eggs :)

That's it - I'm sold! :)

Any other strains that won't look too bad on black substrates?

When I had mota fry I put the sponge filters over the intakes and they got clogged pretty fast I also used a nylon stocking and the same thing happened the only thing I've had any luck with was a filter bag over the intake tube so you might think about trying that. This is the fish for you're black tank. Check out Discus Madness. Either one of these would make that tank!

Another idea could be a group of Albino Veil Tail Angle fish, I bet that would look awsome in that tank too!

I really like the "white rabbit"!

I have a few platinum blue angels that I bought a while ago. They would produced a strong contrast for sure but I feel that they somehow lack the impact.

I'll PM you more about the discus. For those who are wondering, only the albinos do well on black or dark backgrounds/substrate because they lack black pigment. All non-albino discus are like chameleons and will turn dark and sickly looking in a dark tank. If they are pigeon blood based, they will show peppering, which looks exactly how it sounds -- it looks like you rolled a wet fish in black pepper. It's not a pretty sight.

You've probably noticed that almost all my tanks are painted light blue. That's because I used to use them all as discus grow-outs. :)

Here are the albino goldens from a few months ago. I need to take recent pictures...
