you might want to look at building an algee truff scrubber, it works on both fresh and salt water you can build it for about 40 dollar. I have replaced all of my EQ in my reef sump with one, and I am adding it to my new freshwater tank. also you might want to look a battery back up air pump for power outages, I went through karina in new orleans and while I also have a generator, the back up air pump cost $14 at petco and run at least 3 days on two D cell battire a lot cheaper than runnning a generator and quiter too.
