Yeah if my NitrAte ppm was that high to start, I'd be right on that SCRUBBER, or do some kind of a planted senario or at least a Hyacinth ebb and flow set up...
The scrubber is going to happen for sure. You mind setting me down the right path next time im in the area? I am at home up here with the leg surgery so I got time to build it now :) I will be down next month for a week or so

No Problem, Brah!
It will be so simple for you, once you get the jest of how they work.

The trick is to be sure to have enough water flow,
over a properly prepared screen,
with enough CFL lighting,
and make it all easy to acess,
because one side of the screen needs to be scraped once a week,
so the Algae can efficiently consume the NitrAtes...
Easy/sleazy...:D

Folks, let's not derail topics with personal comments. Thank you.

Based on that fact, not opinion, it is obvious that “tap water kills bacteria” is a false, or at the very least exaggerated, statement.

To tell people that chlorine and/or chloramine kill bacteria, is a fact. To point out that most if not all city water contains chlorine and/or chloramine is very helpful. It is also helpful to mention that tap water contains varying amounts of chlorine and/or chloramine and in most cases it is in small enough quantities to require using a dechlorinator, but dosing the tank as tap water is added is generally safe.

Sorry, but by your own definition, this isn't true either. If tap water IS safe because some people put it in their tanks with out problems, then I can say the same about chlorine and chloramins... I can put tap water with these things in my tank with no problems as long as I don't exceed a certain percentage and things are fine. I wouldn't say that to most people, but for the sake of certain blockheads I have to.

The problem is that you're as anal as one can be: no one can generalize, except you of course. And apparently you're an authority on all topics when in fact you have only vague knowledge. Why don't you just shut your mouth and get off your high horse?
