Juvenile ID On 2 Fish

Most likely not an ornate. At least you didn’t pay the usual expensive price for it.

I guess that's one way to look at it... Another is I got ripped off and now have a fish I don't even want... I don't pinch pennies so I don't remember the exact cost but it was between 18-24 bucks.

I'm just super bummed now. I knew in my head that this guy didnt have a random ornate bichir in his small shop with limited stock but I guess I just wanted one so bad I was willing to trust what he said which was my mistake.

Yep, but do you mind if I ask how much it was?

I think I might have mentioned it in my post after editing it. I don't remember exactly cause if I want something I buy it obviously within reason, so I don't remember exactly, but he charged me like between 18-24 I believe. Then I bought a little hiding log for 20 so he had somewhere to hide in the 55 grow out, which I mean I can still use that for future purposes but ya... Don't even want this fish now. Super bummed. o_O I try not to bash LFS folks or anyone for that matter so I'll refrain from my first thoughts but damn man he simply coulda said "ya know its a bichir not sure if its the exact type your looking for." He specifically was like "absolutely that's an ornate bichir" when I asked and acted offended I'd even question it.

So, are the royal CK the common version of CK as well? At this rate that wouldn't surprise me...

Damn, that’s a little pricy, it looks to be a captive bred sen based on the head shape and should’ve been around $6-10. I think if you give it a chance tho you’ll come to like it. I have a WC sen , weeksii, Delhezi and an Endlicheri and the sen by far has the most personality and is the most active. They’re probably the best eaters too
Royals aren’t uncommon but they’re less common than a regular CK

Well I guess it gets a chance cause I'm stuck with it now. Not like I'm gonna bring it back... What's the WC sen?
WC is wild caught, there’s a difference in appearance between WC and captive sens, glad you’re keeping the sen, i did forget to mention that sens don’t get big enough to live with a CK. Captive sens get around 6-10”

I see. the WC seem to be pale and the captive not so much right? Ya... Definitely pissed about this whole scenario.
Wilds are bigger, slimmer with a more triangular head. Captives are smaller, chubbier with a more blunt head. Color I don’t think changes based on WC or CB. I think it does based on location tho, mine is a WC from Nigeria.
Yours should have kind of an olive color when it matures and the stripes will go away, if I’m right about it being a Senegal.
You should post it in the poly section under ancient fish for more definitive ID

Heres an ornate I used to have for comparison. The small ones I've seen have a similar all-over pattern as well, though I got mine as an adult. Yours is striped, and missing the black in the fins. Somebody better with small bichir ID should chime in. Hendre Hendre ?
