Juvenile Pike ID and Husbandry

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The pickerel has been eaten by one of the crawdads. I am incensed at myself and have learned a valuable lesson. Damnation. Crawdads will be moved back to main crawdad tank... perhaps some minnows in the 10g to fatten up for the next pickerel attempt.

That sucks!!!

UPDATE!

I now have four pickerel, three of which I am willing to sell/ship! I just need some styrofoam containers, plastic bags, and cardboard boxes, perhaps an ice pack. Any advice on shipping would be most appreciated!

The big guy is mine, at 5-6", the others are juvies at 4-5".

sorry i dont mean to be sounding like a jerk but could you speak in less proper english? i understand everything but its just a pain to go through your posts so i just skip them. "I am incensed at myself" come on. seriously. dont be so up tight. please dont take this as a flame im just trying to let you know that its ok to use slang here.:)btw congrats on getting the new pickerel. i have a grass pickerel about 1in long right now. keep up the good work!

Sorry son that's me when heartily caffeinated, I have read myself fairly blind and have a bit of a propensity for large words. They please me deeply on the insidish parts. If I could excise the latin, greek, and sanskrit from my brain, I would. I end up humiliating myself in public by having to explain myself in layman's terms.

lol :)

If you are interested i have a extra baby gar that is about 1.75" that I would be willing to trade you for one of your pickerel.

I've decided to just raise the pickerel myself, didn't realize the problems with selling wildcaught. So much for profit, but I love me fishies anyway.

i have 2 grass pickerel, and as i was reading the post, i thought to myself, crayfish won't work... then i notice later it says one was eaten... sorry about your loss.
but CONGRATS on the pickerel ... i have only had mine for a week or two and i love them!!! very cool to watch them swim through top cover then dart out and attack guppies!

as for the people looking for some, i suggest Teleost... if thats how you spell his name... he is in chicago and has / had them for sale.

i got mine from Zimmermans, and they can be found on forum.nanfa.org , in the trading post section. 10 bucks each and shipping wasn't bad (they are pretty close in distance to me though) they are extremely healthy, and a great fish.

i also saw a post the other day in the for sale section about redfin, and i replied but the guy hasnt gotten back to me, so i cant say anything about that one yet...
