Juvenile RTM pics?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm going to try and take some pics tonight the reds are really coming out in the fins. I saw some dovii at the aquarium center and I can def see the differences now. Dovii seem to have longer body structures. I've grow out loiselli before and they have a more yellow/gold base. Can't wait til they can be sexed.

Those definitely don't look like dovii fry to me. Dovii don't usually show stripes at that age and their bodies are more elongated than other parachromis's (parachromii?). I don't blame u for being skeptical after that lfs didn't know the difference between red tiger motaguense and red motas, but those look rtm to me. Mayyybe freddy but most likely rtm ;) Are those all from the same batch of fry?

Not sure what the difference is between a red tiger mota and a red mota?
I have a pair of red tiger mota's that spawned for me and the fry at 2 inches or less start to show red on face and fins/body. They are from rio blanco.
I also purchaced(not very long ago) some fry (Red mota's or tiger) from a dealer in canada.
I don't think these are the yellow regular mota's but are the red's(only because they were sold to me as such).
They look very close to my rio blanco fry but don't show any red color(same size).
I also know there is a red mota from rio Copan....spelling might be off.
I should call the dealer and ask him but he might not know.
If these mota's turn red later , then I'll know for sure that there is a differece of these two rio types at a young age in color but who knows.
I'll grow them out and keep you updated, they look identical except for color...cheers..
One more thing, they are not freddy's because I also had those as fry about a year ago and do not look alike.

Def keep me updated. A few more months until mine really begin to show their coloration. I was told that at 4" they should begin to show off their colors. Mine are roughly 3". I'm hoping out of the five to have a few females so I can keep two for a larger RTM male that I already have and sell off the rest.

well I did some more research on the net and I am strongly thinking that my new batch that I got are not red tiger mota's but parachromis loiselle.
This batch I have are identical to yours and after finding more google images I really think my dealer made a mistake.
Here are the other options;
1) they are regular mota's, not reds ( I have not seen pic's of juvie reg. mota's so this could be true)
2) they are red tiger mota's from rio copan and the red comes in later (could be but I don't think so)
3) they are loiselli (this to me seems to be the most logical choice)(still a nice fish)

They are def. not jaguars, dovies, la ceiba, red tiger (rio blanco) mota's or freddy's!!!!!!!
I noticed that cichlids of the americas are selling orange loiselle's.
First time I've heard of orange ones, I wonder if this could be them?

Always fun guessing, will keep you updated....

It's real simple, we collect in the Rio Blanco because it's a smaller tributery to the Copan and easier to collect, The Rio Blanco's in the hobby came from a location about a mile from where the Blanco runs into the Copan, so basically they are all the same fish. All the fish from the Blanco and Copan came from 4 collecting trips we made from 2006-2009. Ken
So Rio Copan and Rio Blanco are essentially the same fish
