deff a festea and prolly a female as ur pic shows blue speckling on the fin which in most cases but not always says female. nice pickup
Juvy Red Terror or Uro?

Here is the actual story. This store had "random" cichlids for $2.50 each. There were several that looked like red terrors so I bought one. I ended up getting rid of a couple tanks, so I needed to downsize my stock. Since I already had an 11 inch female festae, I sold this one to the lfs. Then someone offered me $400 for my 11 inch festae and I sold her. I went back to the lfs store and they sold the one you see now back to me for the same $8 they gave me in credit. So I actually paid 2 and a half bucks for her. I am just glad they still had her or him.

At 3" it's not definite yet. It might look male now but develop a black dorsal a little later. After 4" or so you should know for sure but it looks male at this point.
I agree, I wouldn't start calling it a male just yet. Females will have black on the front half of their dorsal, and, I hate to say it, but they grow very slowly. Anyway, good luck
