good read and yeah i found out the hard way but its basically what i do now .
i lost a few rays in the many years ive tried keeping them and reserching the few places availbe whilst not keeping them ( im talking last 10 yrs plus ) i could probably dig out a vid of my first retic in a com setup with neons swimming past and a prawn somwhere in a dark cavern lmfao .
keeping it simple is the way to go ( after fortunes spent on test kids . ro equptment . meds and god knows what else )
i would only query the large waterchanges. 50% ? sounds alot to me . im reluctant to do over 25% due to the behaviour and coloration of my rays after large water changes.
could be interesting to see what comments are about this .

lets look at the kiss method and how many people use it....im just throwing this out there... this is how i keep rays and have several friends who do the same..
1. WE DONT CRY ABOUT THINGS....
2. water changes are done via tap water and prime.PH is what ever comes out of the tap
3. feed quality foods
4. KEEP THE WATER PRISTINE VIA WATER CHANGES(LARGE 50%)
these have proven to be very successful for us... rays have bred (some are still trying with multiple still births but we are dealing with that)
i have not used a test kit in 2 years give or take... i cycle tanks with out them.. ive put rays on very wide diets via starving them for several weeks... not 3 days and worry....again no need to cry about things...
these are just what we do... you want more specifics just ask... funny how when you keep things simple it works better...
