k1 kaldness

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here is an update on my 55 gallon k1 kaldness fluidized bed filter. i just added a algae scrubber today in my first chamber. waiting on suction cups but it seems to be doing fine for now. i am also changing out that filter sock... as much as people like it, i dont. its a pain to clean every time and just stinks up my basement. Also im extremely worried whenever i have to wash it with bleach. I plan on changing the first step of the filtration to a 5 gallon bucket with filter floss as the mechanical media. i will throw out the filterfloss when needed. i feel that it is much more safe and easier to handle than constantly switching out socks that could have bleach or other chemicals on them from my laundry machine.

Looks like it could handle even more K1. On the socks, i have 2 of them (one for each drain. Left and right) I have a piece of 2" pvc outside that I slide the dirty sock onto and just garden hose jet nozzle blast the dirt out of it. Works really well and fast with no chemichals.
