k1 kaldness

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i believe k3 is a bit heavier than k1 but it should all do the same. Currently i have jehmco pump i got from a fellow fish keeper who retired from the hobby. as for what i did you can look at one of the pictures i posted

I don't see any pics of the pvc build you went for?

that is very true. both inputs of air is on 1 side of the the frame. i should have put it in the center likes yours... the other issue maybe is that pvc air line may not be exactly level, causing the air to favor one side than another, i found putting gluing the pvc together and keeping it in shape was a bit difficult.

just an update. i realize the the air flow isnt the only problem, but physically the chamber is too wide and narrow for the media to circulate i want it to. so i am once again going to increase the air output to 120 liters per minute. this will be overkill but most effective for my needs. but thats not all. i have talked to the local acrylic company that i will be doing business with. i will be creating two 1'x4' acrylic bio towers. they will sit next to 2 different tanks. to get those pieces cut, it will cost about 150$ to cut. i will need to make my own drip tray and bottoms and provide bulkheads of my own. total cost will round about 200$ to make 2 large biotowers. I feel that this will be a little expensive but worth it. compared to the money i have spent and lost due to cheaping out and underestimating filtration and on fish, i feel this is fair. a diagram is still being drawn allow me to fully plan this build. I am offically giving up and leaving the canister filtration method. it is a pain an just unrealisticly expensive and time consuming for large fish such as stingrays and even most cichlids. i wouldnt even recommend it for goldfishes.

Was a sand fluid bed filter already discussed as an alternate solution? Way less space and way more surface area. Suuuuuuper cheap to build. I built one with tuperware and a powerhead inside one of my sump chambers.

I have 3 gallons of K1 in it's own chamber because thats what I started with during my first "big tank" research.

a sand filter is definitely the most effective, but with the delacacy of how you must maintain it i stay away from it. i am quite rough with my water changes and with my equipment, that is another reason why i do not buy stuff anymore but rather make it myself as its more sturdy but less appealing. i would definitely be the dumbass that gets sand all over my sump lmfaoo..

How do people deal with the evaporation issue? The water evaporates at an alarming rate from the boiling. Please don't tell me everyone here is on a drip system...
