Wow, these stories are horrid 
I guess I've been lucky, worst that ever happened to me was my friend who house sits when I go away thought my betta would like a "treat" and fed him a whole pack of bloodworm. I was away for a week and the poor little sod got whitespot through crappy water because of it. He survived though, big water change and lots of TLC when I got back and saw all this manky bloodworm at the bottom of his tank! Was kinda difficult to explain to her, she was only trying to be nice! It just went a bit wrong :-S

yeah i really need to keep my guard up. but it really goes to show how dumb and ignorant people are towards fish.
I guess I must be super lucky, I live in a fraternity house with 35 other guys, I never leave my room locked and noone has done anything to my jardini arowana. When I had piranha I would even leave my door unlocked when I went home and some of the guys would feed them for me. Knocking on wood!
Yikes! Some scary stuff. I'm a nervous wreck about my tanks. I've been out of the country for about 6 months, and will be for another 5 months to a year. I took down most of my tanks before leaving, but couldn't bear to tear down my rainbow community tank or my brackish tank. My sister is taking care of those for me with very strict instructions, but I still bug her and ask how things are going way too much lol. Worst I've had happen so far is my 3 year old brother scooped a betta out of his tank and laid it on the couch 'cause he wanted to take a picture of it. Poor thing was pretty traumatized, but made it through.
My wife uses febreeze air freshener like there gonna stop making it or something, damn house is forever smelling like some artificial fragrance between candles and that crap and I was sittin on a bench i built for the kids just watching my fish and she rolls through with the fog of lavender death blasting as she goes by the big tank...... I gave her ish and said NEVER AGAIN near the big tank or any others .... or well i dont know what i could do but .... i beaked enough that she avoids my tanks now... that being said my house is continually fogged with some fragrant poison ... makes me nervous when im not around....
and my dipstick brother in law is forever going to my tank making scissors with his fingers and chasing the fish through the glass.... but a good nut shot stopped that , must be something in there genetics lol...

sounds a bit like my house, there is one of those horrible plug in air fresheners in just about every room, i'm continually switching them off....i hate the stuff.
