Never go there. They have a large selection of tattooed blood parrots and dyed community fish. They also have a few tattooed giant gouramis. The blood parrots say I (heart) You. Every time I go I see dead fish in the tanks and they work on commission. They also store large pacus, catfish, and other monsters in tiny tanks. Horrible, horrible place. They do have a cool front tank though with a large RTC.

the tattoos are just pernament marker.:werd:

Pets inc by far the best in phoenix... i've been to ocean floor many times, but its difficult to get good, honest help.

Pets inc rocks!... went in for some plants and they were out so they pulled some out of their display tanks for me... i thought that was pretty cool.

oh and i've heard bad things about the guy who owns Ocean Floor... supposedly he doesnt give a rats @ss about fish, just making money.

but i dont know him, so just ignore me.

Haven’t been to Ocean Floor yet, checked out Phoenix Tropical saw some interesting stuff there, including a 2-3 foot RTC. Pets Inc is by far my favorite so far all my fish have come from there, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly and best of all they are my neighborhood fish store, literally just down the road from me.

I will be joining the AZ crew in a few months, sounds like the fish seen is dead out there.

Anyone make trips to socal for fish?
Anyone with an idea of a good place to get a large tank please let me know.

Oh it's true...not gonna name names....but yeah.

Although, I gotta tell you - having been on both sides of the counter...the longer you work in the pet trade, the less you look at animals as pets and the more you view them as a souless commodity, I'm no condoning or justifying...but it's true.

Yeah Pets Inc is pretty much the only good LFS in phoenix. Their service leaves something to be desired sometimes...but mabye that's just my experience.

Ph. Tropical is cool, but god it's kinda scary...I think I got malaria from the misquitos in those stagnant ponds out back....

Wow, hadn't checked this in a while, glad to know there's more than two keepers down here. I agree on phx tropical being a little scary. The free roaming chickens were a bit odd too. The more I go to Pets inc. the less crazy I am about them. The employees seem apathetic for the most part. There are a couple good ones but the rest can be iffy. Sucks too, because I always go down there hoping to talk about fish and nobody seems interested. I know this is a derail but whats everyone in AZ keeping?

I have a house in Phoenix that I'm remodling for sale at the moment but I lived my whole life in AZ before moving to California about two years ago.

Amazon tropical is a good smaller LFS located on 35th ave north of T bird. Three of the best LFS's in the valley have closed down over the last few years and no real replacements have opened to fill the gap.

Compared to the Socal stores...everything in PX is overpriced...fish-wise AND equipment. Part of the problem is due to something that happened about 6 years ago. A fairly large LFS missed the rent and was locked out by the mall owners. By the time the dust settled and the shop owners were allowed back in they had 250 tanks of dead and dying fish. Court cases went on for years but in the end the city sided with the building owner. Something to think about when concidering opening a LFS in the valley of the sun.
