Hello all, if you can't tell im new to keeping large fish. iv been in the hobby about 15 years but never kept any thing that gets more that 7 inches. I have a 120 and I want to know if it would be safe(from a tank size point) if I could keep 1 Oscar, 2 severums and 4 platinum blood parrots in a 120? I understand cichlids can be "grouchy" and it depends on the individual fish and what not. I just don't know from a tank size point of view. I was also curious on what pleco I could keep with this set up that isn't a common pleco don't want a monster pleco thanks all stay safe. P.S I understand a lot of controversy around the bloods but I don't care my grandmother kept them while I was growing up and they are the fish that got me in the hobby. please don't give me grief on them.

A 120 would make a decent size tank for a single adult Oscar. I would personally not consider adding anything else to a tank that size.

If your heart is set on BP's, then 4 adult BP's would make for a decent set up, if they all get along.

Good luck

Agree with the above, maybe 2 severums and the oscar until they reach adult size, but I'd ditch the BPs (I consider them mutant abominations).
But on a less personal note, Oscars and Severums are not particularly aggressive or territorial compared to BPs.
BPs are mutant Amphilophines which are a hard water species.
The oscars are a neutral water perimeter species, and Sev's (the real ones) are often much healthier if kept in soft low pH water (below 7 pH)).

to each there own I guess the bloods are sentimental to me so I'm going to keep them but thanks for your input.

LOL, it's all good Duane. I too used to be somewhat of a purist snob, but at some point I decided that every fish deserves a little love. I still have a little snobbery in me, I find the average BP to be quite ugly and deformed looking, where a KKP, or Red Mammon, can be a thing of absolute beauty to me. It's all in the eye of the beholder. The fish below is a prime example. Priceless to the owner, easily worth 1K+ in the right circles, where you would probably fry it for dinner. lol

If I had fry from a $1K fish, those that could be sold at that price, I might temporarily ditch my principals.

That said, a few years back I had a bunch of deformed Tomocichla asfraci, that had the same type deformed mouth as most BPs sold today,
I joked with a friend that also had some, that we could make a bundle giving them a Anime type name, and selling them as some new improved hybrid.
I ended up culling most as they grew as they showed even more deformed characteristic, and gave the most normal looking one to him.
