Keeping catfish with smaller fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Bigger than its mouth. If it won't fit in its mouth the worst it can do is try and fail. If its too small it may not get eaten, but may get stuck in its mouth/throat. Not sure what size to suggest cus im not sure on your species of catfish or how big it gets. As to the dat, try and post a pic. Even a pic on your phone. ITs can vary in colour/ stripe pattern or number of stripes. Is that the differences you meant?

The catfish is A achara catfish I.e False Perruno. It can reach 100cm from my knowledge but usually smaller. As for the Dat, MFK won't let me post pics :$

Up until the achara is quite large it will grow faster than the other fish you mentioned. So it could take years to grow out the smaller ones to an appropriate size, considering that the catfish will generally outgrow them.

So either I get larger specimens or I don't do the mix? lol

Yea pretty much. An Achara will try and fit anything it thinks it can into it's mouth. They can even try and eat fish that are much to big and spit them out after they're dead.

Right, well it's good to know rather than risk it lol I'll consider the options and go from there. Thanks everyone! As for the Dat, let me see if I can figure this out.

Honestly, once a Datnoid reaches about 6-8" which could take about a year or a little less, there aren't too many fish that can actually eat them because of their tall body structures. The other fish, not so much though

Well, how big do you think my flagtail could be in a year? He's actually 4" now
