so what would you like pix of? what rivers/tributaries do you feel need photo evidence to satisfy your desire for pix? there are plenty of pix across the interwebz of asian aro farms across SE Asia. google, learn it, use it, love it.

I agree it is stupid for some of the bans (i.e. piranhas in Ky) as for california, everything is illegal there

It is the government's business if those fish could escape and destroy wild indigenous populations. The problem is people do release them when they don't want them anymore.

Yeah true.

Oh it slipped past me about being endangered. Yeah those ppl shouldnt have.

LOL,calm down.Lets not further endanger this thread...Now,I wasn't asking for photos per se but I did mention documented proof.Whomever it is that you are in contact with can say whatever they want, whether they are being hopefully optimistic because it is their livlihood which is at stake,or actually being accurate.

This depends on why the fish is illegal. If the fish is illegal for a valid reason such as being collected from the wild and being endangered, then people should not try and obtain them.
I have no issues with people getting illegal captive bred Asian arowanas. There is no valid reason why these are illegal anymore when so many are bred on farms.

Owning illegal fish is fine in my opinion. I don't own any myself but I wouldn't hesitate to buy an illegal fish if I wanted it. When it gets too big u have to kill it though.... Not let it go

reading comprehension, use it.

i said i knew people who were directly affected by the overfishing of asian aros AS WELL AS the men who were running the asian aro farms.

so both sides, people who would benefit financially as well those who day to day lives once revolved around fishing for food, agree that the asian aro populations are doing far then they were in the 70's when the ban was put in place here in the states. theres a reason why the rest of the civilized world removed their bans and now allow them to be imported.

the funniest thing about the arguement for asian aros is the mods here will cling to that cites ruling like its the hand of god, even though that law now is completely outdated and without merit. i mean, for those saying "where's the study showing populations have increased" why not say "where's the study showing the populations haven't increased"...

but thats not going to happen. the fact is, and this is a 100% verifiable fact, farms across SE Asia are producing 10's of thousands, if not millions of asian aros every year. some are used for food, those with good genetics are sold to those in the fish trades. the US has just decided to stick to a 40 year old ruling and not given it any type of re-consideration because the countrys of origin haven't gone and released a new report.

to make everyone aware feds do patrol this site to see who keeps illegal fish just a fair warning to anyone about to say anything they will regret!!!!

lol

i live 3 doors down from a senior member of californias fish and game dept. he has told me point blank the only time they go and do a big asian aro bust is when they want more money for their dept. he personally keeps asian aros, FW rays and has a nice 180 with a school of 25 RBP's.

if F&G really cared (which they don't btw, theres not enough money in caring about illegal fish) they would simply set up stings here in socal of EVERY LFS. get to know any LFS owner and they'll hook you up with what ever you want. F&G know this, but they don't make any money doing it, so they don't.

they're more concerned with making people pay for their fishing licenses or paying for their game tags then they are with catching some asian kid with a redtail gold aro.

I'm of the same mindset as chaz, if it is a species that stable in its natural habitat, but illegal because of its potential to become invasive or if it is considered dangerous, I'm usually okay with it if the owner is a responsible keeper who I know would not do anything stupid like release it. I they are an idiot then I would have a problem with it because they are the ones that ruin it for the rest of us.'

If the species is illegal because it is endangered or somthing like that I'm usually not okay with it, unless it was captive bred or something.

But even if I am not okay with someone keeping an illegal animal for whatever reason, I will still keep my mouth shut about it. It is not my place to tell someone what they can or cant have.
