That's part of the problem with the municipal bylaws, they're enforced by the same guys who do the parking bylaws and similar. They don't know anything about animals.

We have Ministry of Natural Resources who are at least wildlife officers. Some however, aren't very knowledgeable about exotic animals. We had one guy at my old store trying to tell us polypterus and pike cichlids were snakeheads...

I'm suprised that since they banned the whole family they didn't ban pike cichlids and polys. lol :screwy:

ropes are illegal?

I was watching the new River Monsters last night which had a really scary example of introduced species in Papua. The gov released pacu into the rivers to give the people something to eat, but without enough food that pacu have started munching the locals when they're swimming, especially their manly bits!

No I am talking about the ban on fish that resemble the snakehead... with the name snakehead and this fish looking like it should be on land.. lol.. it was a response to ban on fish like pike chiclids and polys...

No rope fish are not illegal I was making a reference to the pike ciclid and polys but yes I did see that episodes makes me wonder what other species have been introduced other than a snakehead and the silver carp. Let's introduce the asian arowana somewhere!!! Lmao!!!

about the baby turtles; illegal to sell not due to endanger status; since most baby turtles for sale back then were red ear sliders.

reason was because some kids were putting the tiny things in their mouths and getting salmonella bacteria infections.

Funny thing is, all turtles and even tortoises can carry salmonella just because you don't shove one in your mouth doesn't mean you can't get the bacteria some other way.

There's a perfect example of a foolish law. The law was designed to stop kids putting the salmonella carrying turtles in their mouths. Somehow, it didn't occur to who ever thought this up that kids PUT THEIR FINGERS IN THEIR MOUTHS ALL THE TIME, possibly after touching the same turtles. Sigh

The thing about the baby turtles is funny. Because ur more likely to get sick from undercooked chicken. But one thing I wanna know, is why in god's name would u let ur child put a turtle in it's mouth? Bad parenting. Period. But, it's not like they grow out of salmonella. If they have it, they may even get sick themselves. I still think it's funny that ur more likely to get it from undercooked meats. But no one's gonna outlaw or make laws on cooking meats, so I guess they did what they thought was best. But most turtles don't have it. From what I know, the likelihood of them having it is based on their health. I've sucked in turtle water(stupid syphoning), I have 3, not sick. I'm not suggesting u go to ur local pond and suck on turtles, but better parenting would be a much better method to the selling of baby turtles.
