KEEPING JAVA FERN ALIVE

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm just doing my usual compare and contrast with a 75 gal I'm running, girlfriend spilt yeast in it and I have a feeling I'm doing a teardown and rework.

haha nice! nothing like having the gf help out :) man, a complete tear down

Yeah this was a well established tank with flowering lilies and everyting. Very displeased.

At least the crypts made it through. It's funny, I'm looking at the tank this morning and it looked almost like bugs swimming around. I always thought yeast was smaller. The Oto cats and Apple snails are certainly enjoying it though.

Try putting them in some sand or river sand. I had some flourishing with Nitrates between 30ppm - 40ppm. I had a 36w fluro which seemed pretty bright but they were fine. I also used some liquid ferts.

sand isnt an option unfortunately because of the way the IOS system works.
but im trying flourish excel now.
we'll see how that goes.

Just curious, what is an IOS system?

Sometimes Java Fern just won't work for some people. I can't keep it alive for the life of me either. Crypts, Amazon sword, Val and Anubias all have done well for me, however.

There's really no reason you should have to dose fertilizers for Java Fern in a relatively low light setup. Especially with the number of fish you have.

Since Java Fern doesn't work, you could try Anubias or Amazon Swords in pots.

IOS-internal overflow system.
like a sump inside the tank.
the reason i chose java fern is cause i heard its hard to kill and i dont like pots.
