These are mostly random streams and runoffs from lakes and ponds.
At one stream, if you go to where it empties out of a lake, you can get some big fish (9"+).

Yes, the aquarium is inside my house. I set it up yesterday (had the filter going for weeks) and will be putting in some rocks and giving it a magnum 350 as well.

The water was around 55-60degrees when I was filling it yesterday.
If it gets warmer than 60, I'll have to see how the fish are acting and maybe purchase a cooler or something.

Oh, I am excited :)
This is at my parents house, so my dad will be surprised to see what I have setup, he will be shocked! lol

What kind of natives are you trying to keep?? My native tanks stay at 70 year round. Unless youre trying to keep trout, or some other really cold water species, you wont need a chiller unless it gets really hot where your tanks are

I didnt hear you mention were these creeks on your own property?? Im glad youre excited but that Possum Cop will be excited too when he takes all your stuff, Please check all your local regulations before collecting.

That setup is going to look awesome! Post up some pics when you get it set up!

Make sure you cycle the tank first. I know you said you have had it running for weeks but without a source of ammonia that won't do anything. I'm sure you know that but I'm just making sure.

I expected a little less than I actually caught, got 25 overnight! lol

I kept two medium ones and two small ones. Rest back to the stream.
Looking online, they look like Northern Fathead's.
Seems like I got bait fish! lol

what kind of bait did you use and could you post pictures of your minnow trap?

They're creek chub...all of them from the looks of it. They're fun fish to keep, veracious appetites and they reach a decent size, 10-12". The thing with minnow traps is that they seem to catch a lot of a select few fish. Quantity over diversity. If you want some of the more glamorous natives your best bet is to get in the water.

Bait fish or not they look awesome!

ok this doesnt help me very much because i already knew this, but thanks. i was just asking if he could tell me what bait he used and to post pictures of his minnow trap. the reason is because ive been using a half 2 liter bottle trap with bread, catfish meat, and worms and havent caught anything and i know there are several fish there because i catch them all the time

My reply wasen't directed to you so that's probably why it wasn't helpful. I was posting as a response to the OP or the membership in general. Your question seemed to be directed towards the OP specifically so I didn't answer it. To answer your question though I use a regular wire minnow trap from Wal-Mart baited with dry dog or cat food and I've also used chicken with success. With those I've caught bluntnose and fathead minnows, golden shiners, bluegill, pumpkinseeds, creek chubs and a few other species I cannot recall at the moment.

This might help you and others when baiting your traps.
