Hello I want to purchase a Thai blue mahseer to pair with my Payara True Armatus it’s about 7 inches, the place I would get the masheer from only has 4.5 inch mahseer would that be to risky at that size, if so would you recommend anything better? I couldn’t really find any info on keeping them together and if it’s even possible? Thanks for reading and any inputes! IMG_4668.jpeg IMG_4662.jpeg

Personally I dont think you would have a problem at that size as long as your armatus is feeding well. My armatus was fine with other fish a few smaller than him but he ate every night almost
From what I have heard they become more unpredictable with tank mates as they get older and bigger when they can decimate a tank mate for no reason

Sounds good I’ll give it a try I’ve been kinda scared because he smashes anything that goes in the tank but I’ll problably start doing daily feeding and see if that helps right now I feed every other day usually six large mosquito fish throughout the day

If he has a great feeding response why not just feed him frozen fish, so much easier probably cheaper and less likely to pass on disease or parasites?

I have tried frozen silver sides that’s the only thing frozen I’ve tried to feed him and he rejected those immediately he would attack them and bite them but would pretty much immediately let go of them , would you recommend any other frozen foods to try? I’ve seen people feed tilapia I’ve been thinking about trying that , I’ve also been thinking about getting a frozen mini monster pack from predatory fins to try it and feed that.

If he is hitting the food or "mouthing" it and spitting it back out , you are already halfway there. It means he recognises it as a food source. If you keep at it he should come around. When weaning the armatus I've had in the past this was the final stage before they caved

Ok I’ll start refusing live food and see how it goes, what were you feeding it if you don’t mind ?
If he hits the live food as soon as it enters the water you could try at first drop in bits of tilapia with the feeders ( what I used to wean them off) and he may reactively or accidently take it. In my experience they are quite easy to get off live if healthy and free from parasites
