can i get away with cushed coral? or should i put in the sand ?if sand can i put it in a fine net media bag? thanks for ur guys imput i appreciate it

if you do coral put it in a bag. i would do the sand. coral would be hard to keep clean in the bottom if it was not in a bag.

Couldnt find any sand but live sand so i grabbed some crushed coral let it soak for few hours and rinsed then placed a pound if it in a media bag and into my fx5. Will add more slowly. Does this sound about right?

i added all mine at once. i didnt have any issues. your just prolonging it if you do it over time. maybe i got lucky but that was my thought when i did it. also maybe turn down you return on the filter that is alot of flow for a 75gal of young gars. i just use sponge filters.

I have the return turned down and at the bottom. Tank is usual a qt tank for bigger fish . I will add more crushed coral. Was afraid of shocking them with increase in ph. Now what causes the ph to change that kills them. I keep up on wc. Is it from big water changes ? The ph will increase and decrease from wc stressing them out an killing them?

The crushed coral/aragonite sand will slowly balance the pH, so you don't have to worry about shocking them. You get big pH swings from anything ranging from food breaking down to adding water that's a greatly different pH than that of the aquarium's water.

So far so good havent lost any since adding 10pounds wish me luck the next couple days. Afraid to do a wc
