Keeping Tanks Warm in unheated basement

You cut foam like drywall, score and snap. Lol. No saws! That makes mess.

I needed very long and straight, squared edges to construct my canopy so the 'score and snap' didn't work for me.

Now that's what I need to do. How do you light the tank?

Since the tank is in a dark unheated basement and I don't get home until after 5pm, I leave it fully covered with the foam all the time. I only remove the front foam panel during feedings and on weekend nights when I get the chance to sit back and enjoy watching it.....accompanied by a beer or 2 of course. The main light strips are on timers and come on at 4:30pm-10:30pm, and I also have LED string lights that are a timer and goes on 11:00am-11:00pm. Just to ensure their circadian rhythm doesn't get messed up.

Honestly, if you have multiple tanks in your basement (I don't know if you do or not).. Consider glueing 2" stryofoam sheets on all your walls (There's a special adhesive for this). I also insulated the floor and ceiling.. My basement fish room is now 77-80 all winter. I have one vent from the furnace going in there.
It's an expensive investment (buying all that foam) but probably pays for itself really quick.

The thing is if it was my house I would. It's my girlfriends moms house and she's antsy about everything. But once we move out which should be within the next couple months I can do whatever I want lol

This is an interesting idea.....I am also considering getting a potbelly wood burning or a soapstone stove for the basement.
