kendragon's cichla filter project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Stick with me here guys. It's about the filter.
Here's the special made UV, 30W high output. Lamp is about 12" and chamber 18" long x 2" dia. Quartz sleeve is extra long to allow full exposure of the lamp and cooling.
I will run the program tonight to show the dose output. Also decided to increase the media volume to 50 lbs.

Here's the dose analysis.

:nilly:this is crazy stuff Ken, mumbo jumbo numbers and stuff you got going!!!!

Let me explain.
The charted data shows the intensity of the UV in the chamber. As you move away from the quartz sleeve the intensity drops. Because this is only a single bulb design the intensity running along the h-direction is the same at the given r (distances away from the bulb).
Bottomline is the UV dose is 4.23mJ/cm^2. That was the objective of this custom UV. Why 4.23 mJ/cm^2? Ideally you want 50mJ/cm^2. This being a high flow system pumping 11 times the tank volume in one hour 4.23 x 11 = 46.5mJ/cm^2. Good enough! Numbers don't lie.
FYI. I can up the dose by slowing the flow down a bit but now my bass has less flow. Fine line for the cichla keeper to draw. Hope that helps Lambro.
