Finally found me some keyholes, I grabbed 5 little 2" guys to grow out. I was afraid they get swallowed by bigger fish but parrots and Severums haven't cared for them and my chocolate looks a little evil but hasn't ate any yet. My Male sajica chases them around but nothing serious so far. I really hope they work out I wish they were bigger but only found little guys. Already eating flakes though. How fast do these grow? I know they are pretty passive just hoping they hold their own as a group and bulk up in time for them not to be prey or picked on

Lucky. I've only seen them here once and that was because I requested them.
If they hadn't arrived two months late I'd have a group of them instead of my convict and barbs.

Nice Keyholes where did you get them from?

I picked a tiny one up a month or two ago at my LFS. Absolutely love the little guy! He's in with two adult angels, 2 SAEs and a few zebra danios. FEISTY little bugger that flies right up to the glass to beg for food. My keyhole was barely an inch when I got him. He's maybe 1.5" now.

Yes I've always wanted some and I couldn't find any until a member told me where they seen them at. I'm glad I found them there instead of having to order from wetspot lol I hate shipping fees. They were only 4$ each too I had to get 5

Keyholes are great little fish, but be wary of keeping them with larger, more aggressive fish. In my experience, they aren't aggressive feeders, so they may not prosper if they have to compete for food.
Thanks for your input !! I dont think my fish are considered aggressive though so far everyone has ignored them and they ate flakes last night and they ate some pellets right now. They are so small but they swim together in a group and actually went for pellets instantly lol so nice to watch

Yah bro they are not even shy like i thought they would be, super active and out and about swimming. You should get him some buddies I heard they do best in pair or group

I kept Keyholes a few years back. Don't underestimate them.

I had read they were shy and peaceful, a great community fish.

So into my community tank they went.

They ate all of the Cardinal & Glowlight tetras in fairly short order.

The 4 keyholes hunted them like wolves once the light were out. They'd nip of the fins or the eyes, and then eventually eat the remains.

Anyhow, I had 1 male & 3 females in that batch. The male got closer to 6" than to 4", but the females stayed in that 3.5" to 4" range.

I don't think they should be kept with Convicts or JD's, but they did fine for me with Severums, Festivums, Angels, and a couple species of Geos (Steindachneri & RH Tapajos). They can also be kept with other dwarf cichlids.

But beware the noodle shaped tetra - they will be lunch!
