Kill a watt, Kill-a-watt Fish room tests

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wonder what the difference will be between the wattages, for example how much more will a 200w cost over a 100w, or a 300w over a 200w, etc.

I do plan to test something like this. I'd like to test a heater in a 55g, and my 300g. Because a 300 watt heater, in a 20g, should use the exact same power consumption as the 100 watt did. Just be on less than the 100 watt.

After the dehumidifier. I think i'll try a 300 watt heater on the 300 gallon and view it's results.

You folks may want to check our your local public libraries. Some of them actually have kill a watt meters you can sign out. Some georgia libraries have them. Part of the whole energy conservation thing some states are doing.

I got my Kill-A-Watt tonight!!!

I just plugged a 250 W heater into it which is in a 125 gal tank... I plan to leave it until Sunday and then analyze the result...

My father, the electrician, ranted and raved abotu how this meter cannot be what the reviews claim it to be because he's used meters like this (20 years ago) and they cost $400+... blah blah blah... after seeing mine and playing with it for 10 minutes I had to take him to Home Depot to get one for himself...

I wouldn't expect them to use the exact power. I would expect one method to be more efficient than the other. This little toy has the potential to make a lot of experiments.

any update im curious to see whats more efficient a 100w or 200w

I've ran 2W per gal for heating tanks for a lot of years...

I'm over half way through testing to see the electrical usage of 2 W per gal vs 4 W per gal...

But I'm going to leave you in suspense for a few more days to allow a more thorough comparison ;)

I'll definitely post the results though...

SEND THOSE HEATERS BACK TO MARINELAND , GET IN THERE**** I HAVE 3 I JUST BOUGHT AND THEY ARE ALL BROKEN AND LEAKING CURRENT INTO THE TANKS, WE ARE FIGHTING NOW OVER CREDIT ON THEM THEY WANT TO SEND ME 3 NEW JUNK HEATERS AS LONG AS WE KEEP PUTING UP WITH THIS CRAP THEY WILL KEEP SELLING IT TO US

thomassteven57,
I realize you have only posted a few times but this was not a discussion about heater brands & any issues with them. Please start a new thread or join the current one discussing heater issues.

Sorry to bug you guys but how are the tests going? Kind of waiting to hear the results before I buy any more heaters. :P
