Haha, if you knew what it takes to be one, and then maintain that level, you would never want to deal with it for the sake of having a fish.

Theres an aquarium down in NYC(I think) that has a 12'' RTG Asian Aro, and a 12'' Green arowana. I saw it on youtube. They do take in asian aros.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Protection of an endangered species is NOT a stupid law. It's the kind of law that needs to be in place to protect rare animals from money hungry idiots exploiting them for profit.

Again, I have to disagree with you. You even said yourself that the asian arowanas bred by farms for the pet trade are far removed from the wild fish, so why is stopping them being imported into the US (when they can legally be imported into every other country in the world) going to do anything to protect the wild populations? They even have a damn microchip and certificate that can identify them as second generation (or higher) captive bred animals, it doesn't get any simpler to prevent non-farm raised aros from being imported, just scan the fish when they arrive and before they are allowed to be quarantined. And what about all the other endangered fish? Does the US have a ban on clown loaches or dats? Why not? Just because they're not such a high-profile fish as the arowana.

It is a stupid law, end of story. Imagine if a percentage of the sale price of every asian aro imported into the US was donated towards the breeding programs trying to restock the rivers.....

Are the crazy morphs close to natural asian arowana? Not a chance. Personally, I hate the morphs and how they've gotten away from natural fish. All that time, money and those resources could be focused on saving an endangered species. But that is just me.

However, the law is there to prevent the endangered animals (as a species) from being in the US pet trade, which is does. And as long as nobody is doing anything to restock natural habitat with natural strains of them or do a current wild population study to prove they are no longer endangered, then they will continue to be on the list - and out of the US. I'm still shocked how many people complain about them being endangered, but so few are willing to do anything about it.

i 100% agree. all the money being spent on supplements and dying and morphing should be spent on the wild endangered fish but i do think that giving them a home in the US would be benificial
