killing planeria??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
all this means its a control issue. keep on top of food amounts and water changes with gravel vacs. there will always be a small virtually unnoticeable population but the minute you forget one of the 2 controls measures the population explodes. but it dies down almost as quickly once you get a handle on the thing giving them the means for a larger population.
you cant kill them all in the long term. im sure with the right meds you could kill every single one but it would take a long time and would be a constant battle as its like algae it will always be there so its about control and limiting the triggers for a population explosion.
refer to my comment a few posts earlier, think of it as your tanks alarm system. when the population explodes it means something is wrong and you have time to try and figure out what it is. too much food and not enough maintenance can lead to catastrophic system failure and your tank could cycle again and you could lose fish.

i did a vac job on my tanks today, really paying attention to what was being sucked up, i noticed my 125 has some planeria, but that tank has a 3 inch substrate with finer gravel, etc, etc. my jag tank has a very thin layer of bigger gravel, so when i do my cleaning the get really stirred up, where as in the 125 they remain in the substrate. i think i might remove all the gravel and decor and see if they can live in a bare tank, ill remove the decor slowly as to not totally stress out my jag. again thanks everyone for the input! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
