DONT BE SUPRISED PEARL/LEERI GOURAMIS CAN HOLD THERE OWN AGAINST THE NASTYEST OF FISH( OBVIOUSLY AS LONG AS IT CANT EAT THEM) I HAD TO ISOLATE A EXTEMLY NASTY TROPHEUS IN MY G TANK WHILE I FIGURED OUT WHAT TO DO WITH IT HE PICKED ON A CUPLE FEMALES N THE 2 BIG MALES BASICLY WHOOPED HIS BUTT. THE TRPHEUS DIDNT COME OUT OF THE CORNER TILL I NETTED IT A CUPLE DAYS LATER. BUT AT SOME POINT ANY SMALL FIS WILL SUCOME TO THE CHOMPERS OF AN RBP

I think it's good for awhile. I wouldn't be surprised if a few of the reds start protecting it too.

Does it swim the the shoal or just occupy it's own area of the tank solo?

Ito shoals sometimes...then goes off by itself...I have never seen the p's go after him but there are a couple niks out of its tail fin...other than that it even picks on the p's

I had this happen with a goldfish with mine when they were babies. WAIT TILL THEIR MOUTHS GET BIGGER then they get bold.

They're probably just sizing up the gourami.
