What is the service interval if run 24/7?

I typically clean the cartridges every two to three weeks. The 100 micron cartridge is a pleated screen - to clean it you just hose it off. The 25 micron cartridge is a pleated fiber material - to clean it you soak it overnight in bleach solution and then hose it off.

Is that in your attic?

It is actually in my crawl-space, that's where my sump (300G Rubbermaid) and all my equipment is.

Fx5 with polishing pad does amazing.

NuClear canisters with 100 micron followed by 25 micron cartridges.

Dang Dan, you are big on efficiency. You see a lot of heat loss in your crawlspace? I would think the filters would be really minor compared to the tank itself.

I am pretty big on efficiency, it is kind of an obsession. This system totals about 500 gallons and I only use 800W of heat. One tank (135G) is in the garage and is insulated on two sides plus the hood. The garage gets pretty cold, and so does the crawlspace (although less so), because I live in a pretty cold area with a lot of snow in the winter. The other tank (210G) is in the living room where it never gets very cold. I also do an auto water change and use a DIY heat exchanger to heat the incoming well-water with the outgoing tank water.

I use a similar setup on my 180g but I use oceanclear canisters, a oceanclear 317 followed by a oceanclear 325, and I think for mechanical filtration its hard to beat the nu clear/oceanclear set ups because there are too many options on how you can set them up or use them.

Magnum 350 with the micron cartridge is one of the best available for the price

Fail! While it works good it almost works too good. You have to change the filter so often and that thing is a PIA to deal with! I had one for about 2 months, finally chucked it...

To original poster do a seach on Pacu mom while her tank is massive, she hase some nice filtration. I use a 24 hr spa circ pump with a 50sqftspa filter hooked to it. Mine is hidden behind my background but it wouldwork in a sump.. Does a great job!

I found my original post. Sorry for the cut n paste!

New here but this is what I came up with awhile back. I sell spa's and worked on them for quite a few years. So I have access to parts and psc and really good prices.

Parts; 1 110v laing circ pump like mentioned above, various pvc fittings one 50 stft filter.

Here is the tail end of it!

Sorry need to finish. Anyway here is the filter which is hidden behind the 3d background. You can still do this system with a spa canister under the tank like a hayward or starite type filter. Most would be better off price wise with a FX5 but still the applications for a closed loop type system like this works great for polishing or biological. I run mine 24/7 and can change the filter out in a matter of seconds.

Here is a picture of the tank with the filter set up behind the backgroundI am also running a aquatop CF400 canister filter as well.

Thats awesome. You need to post that in the "Whats under your stand" thread. I like the attention to detail on the thermal insulation.

Sorry for the derail too!
