Knives and rays....experiences..?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just because different fish live in the same river doesn't mean they are at all compatible as tank mates, would anyone put discus and piraña together? (actually don't answer that...I've seen too much stupidity and already know the answer :) ) and even less compatible are fish from different river systems, let alone different continents as I have seen some people on MFK do.(shudder)

I had the same experience, also with blond knife fish which were really hard to find at that time ( are they still?).......in one evening one ray destroyed my population of about 25...about $2k worth at that time......then my 14" Juruense...then my 20" tigrinus....... sigh

Pretty sure you are the type or person that thinks they should be fine?

I collected the ray(s) and knife fish myself in the Amazon (Rio Xingu) so no..(do you even know what biotope means?)
they were then in a 2000 gallon pond....predator prey mixed .....true ( I thought' plenty of space, plenty of places to hide, plenty of food, plenty of super clean water....should be OK), and it was certainly my mistake at that time, I learned from the experience, you can learn from it or not, this was a long time ago and part of my own learning curve.....you can take it any way you like....others here know my credentials.
Logging out again, can't do polemics with people who don't know the subject well enough but want to argue and debate anyway.

I mean...you can get defensive all day long, and I'm sure your credentials are solid brother, but when you admit your mistakes then turn around and belittle people for those very same mistakes, in the same thread no less, is when people call you out lol.

Albino Clown Knives have just recently become available at an affordable price, but still, loosing 25 is still easily going to clear $2K.

As far as David's credentials I'd gladly add my .02$ The guy has probably forgotten more then many of us will ever know about where our fish come from and the fish themselves...... He's one of the most helpful people on this board WHEN PROPERLY APPROACHED.

We all learn from experience. We just choose different ways of sharing it. Some can take advice, some choose to learn for themselves.

I think any experienced ray keepers knows what's safe with rays....... And that is nothing. For every successful cohab there's also the same attempt that fails - doesn't seem to matter what mix it is.

I would love to see the part of the amazon that produces Clown Knife fish, let alone a golden one.

I was just pointing out an obvious contradictory post.

Don't most knives come from the Amazon? Don't think David ever mentioned Clown knives, only blonde knives. I just assumed blonde = Albino Clowns.

I remember when people came here to share knowledge with each other. Don't know what happened to those days. Now it's all just "bros calling eachother out" trying to be the guy that puts the other guy in his place.

Reminds me of the Rob Lowe commercial - "I just can't quit saying bro - bro." LMFAO. {facepalm}

Logging out sounds like a good idea bout now...... :(

I thought the same thing. If you notice my first response was

Good to know. I have mine seperate now and i'm glad i didn't find out the hard way.... That would have sucked

I was appreciative of the advice. However calling people stupid doesn't get anybody anywhere. David i guarantee has more experience with rays than i do. However I'm pretty decent with BGK care. I'm new to rays, my ray is 4-5 inches, my knife fish is 20plus. Never would have imagined an issue but i sure don't want to find out by having my super knife killed by a ray doing what rays do.
