So the past several weeks I've been hearing this knocking sound, I thought it was the air stones moving and tapping the glass. Well today it was very annoying so I took a look and noticed it wasn't the stones because they were not touching the glass. So I turned off everything and it stopped, turned it back on and came back again, then I turned things off one by one and came down to the heater. I turned the heater off and no sound, turned it on and the knocking came back. Its not cracked and holds the temp steady at 82. But just out of precaution I left it off and going to replace it. It's made by Aqueon.

I have a cheap no-name glass one on my 29gal, that does that half the time. I have it hooked up to a controller so I'm not too concern about it. I actually have a replacement Aqeoun Pro heater that I've been procrastinating to swap it out with.

this makes no sense to me, My fish will knock a heater against the glass, but how does it do it itself?

electrical arcing?

I'm guessing the rapid, high heat is causing some sort of expansion inside the heater

possible also.

Those Aqueon filters are infamous for making the knocking sound. Haven't heard of any issues besides just making you nervous when it knocks .

Yea I personally don't own one. I stick with eheim but I have heard that issue from a lot of people with aqueon heaters if not all .
