I grew up keeping koi and goldfish. Trust me, you can cram quite a bit of them in a cool, well filtrated pond with minimal feeding.

These are some of the toughest fish that'll thrive (yes, thrive) in conditions you normally won't consider healthy for other fishes. Kind of explains how they've spread all over the world.

3 as being generous is just a little conservative here. I recommend 20 as being the absolute maximum.
 
lmao any way between 2 and 20? pond is 12foot long 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep. i would keep in a cow tank in basement during winter
 
i would go around 10. once they grow up you'll be amazed.
