yeah im with ya.... now that would be a fight to watch if it kicked of.... imagine 6+ 12" jars going at it.... dam all hands to the nets!!! scary to think about.... but just imagine if it worked.... and they colored up that nice jar gold... dam.....

The thing about jar is they're so easily "coloured" by their surrounding. If you want a goldish looking jar, just have whitish base and sides of the tank and you will have a goldish looking jar throughout it's life:D But if you want darker colouring, just change the base to darker base and sides.

while on the subject of jars, i wana pick ur brains on ur successful jar in the com...

1. how big was he on introduction?

2. who was the tank boss at the time? what was size difference to the jar? and did the jar make a shot for alpha fish?

3. do you know the jars full background? was he raise solo or in a com? if so what tankmates?

4. has he ever snapped? if so at what and @ what size?

thanks dude... i gota try find a jar too work in my com.....

Very nice! Can't wait to see them in a few months. 30%-50% DAILY? That's dedication!

He's 8-9 inches when I first got him.

2. how was the tank boss at the time?
The tank boss is my G2 red which is measuring about 18 inches.

what was size difference to the jar?
It's a good 10-11 inches different in term of length... not to mention the size...

and did the jar make a shot for alpha fish?
The jar since day one is just like a tankmate in there. It'll swim around and the alpha doesnt seen bothered about his existent.

3. do you know the jars full background?
The jar was sold cheap in a LFS. There's a total of 3 jar of the same size but all suffered from damaged finnages. I did a trim before I add him into my com.

was he raise solo or in a com? if so what tankmates?
All jar are kept seperately in the LFS. I believe they are injuried when they're been kept in the same tank in the farm.

4. has he ever snapped? if so at what and @ what size?
So far never snap. Still as respectful to the other bigger boys/girls in the tank.

Especially on a 290g. That's a lot of water.

I am using 18 inches of water level now so I dun think that's all. Still at very manageable water changing routine. I like the bare and clean tank look.:D

Thanks dude! think ill have to be patient a while longer.... the smallest jar i can really risk with the bowfins is 10"+ and my 13" black will definitely snap at it to say hello and prove who's tank it really is.... and i cant risk a jar nearly the same size retaliating on my black..... so ill wait.... reckon 3-6 mnths... few more aro's, bigger tank and ill give a 10" a whirl.... what you think?

I always feel that a younger jar work better with an existing com with bigger aros. I cant really tell you if it'll work.. but I guess it's worth the shot since I have done it and it seen workable.:headbang2
