Dragon - That's because in the US, national parks are pretty damn good, most of the time, about posting signs about dangers. It is the officials at the Park that would side with suing the parents.
Miguel - Yes, it moves me when an animal is murdered, because they are for a trophy, or to waste the animal. (Example - throwing the body back to sea, while saving only the jaws.) The kid's death moves me, too, and once again, it's due to the stupidity of the parents not being more watchful, or more responsible. (Side note to the signs - the signs being posted are to protect the national park from being sued themselves.)
In other words - the 2 sharks that got killed is out of wanton murder, and this child being killed is out of wanton neglience. Not very different is it?
I think I have said what I have to say, and you guys have, too. Bottom line - due to adults being neglient, a child has lost his life, his future, to one of THE ULTIMATE LAND PREDATORS.
Common sense is begging to be heard here. Thanks for a very insightful, interesting discussion.

Santoury, I wonder, my friend..In a thread about a bull shark ( and another one about a Whale shark ) you quickly cry Murder! The death of the animal mooves you..in this here thread, a child gets killed, and you waste your energy venting about parental negligence etc, etc...

sumpin's wrong in this world......evertaing's upside down,,,,

:iagree: Wow Santoury.Your view is very presumtuous.Automatically assuming the boy has all the luxuries in life as you obviously do.Assuming there were bathroom facilities.Half of our National Parks are very remote. If it was a lion attack in Africa ,would it be different.I find it disturbing as Miguel said, you cry murder over a shark but yet gloat and find joy in the death of a 9 yr old boy.Ever stop to think this boy or his parents(assuming he has parents)does not have your standard of living or guidence.Saying this boy should not take a dump in the wild(which is probably where he lives)and blaming it on the parents(who can not watch their children 24/7) is like saying the shark you cried murder over should not have taken hook.

Human kills shark = Murder?
Komodo Dragon kills 9 yr old boy = Excitment!Mother nature at its best.

You need to re-evaluate Santoury.
You seem to have forgotten we are animals too and we are at the top of the food chain.

One. By no means am I gloating and joyful that a child has lost his life.

Two. Top of the food chain? That's an absurd statement given what has happened here. Clearly we are ONE of the top of the food chain, but that space is shared by ... lions and komodo dragons.

Three. Common sense is an instinctual thing. As animals, as one of the most intelligent of all animals (presumably) that goes against what has happened here.

Four. Quite on the contrary, I feel for that child, but there is such a thing as lack of common sense, and stupidity that should not be excused, just because a top predator took advantage of that.

Five. What? You don't find the waste of killing animals for fun, disturbing?

Six. I am reminded of that recent video of a family of water buffalo fighting off lions that had caught one of their babies. What does that say for the child's family? That a bovine has more sense, more responsibility than a "underpivileged human family" ?

I just read the news, simple bad luck, children endangerment? don´t think so, first attack in 33 years in that fisherman village.

Bad luck indeed - poor kid

Did you happen to read if they were successful in tracking down the dragon? I hate to think so.

Great... we know what that means.... even with a CITES animal...

Nature at its best? Thats enjoyment. If not you should be careful how you word your statements.

We are the only species capable of destroy or killing every or any species on earth. That puts us not even but above all others on the food chain'

Common sense is something that is learnt in one lifetime from experience.
Instict is a reaction that is bred into a species over many generations.

Explain stupidity. The parent for not holdoing his hand while he takes a dump?
or someone who assumes they know exactly how it all happenend and also knows of every event that led up to this incodent.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.I sure as hell don't hold it above human life.Especially a childs life.

This is odd.Lions get young Buffalo. Why did parent buffalo let this happen?Adult Buffalo comes to the rescue after.Footage didn't show if the young Buffalo survived.
Somewhat like this incodent, don't you think?
Child is mauled.Adults come to the rescue.Frees child from Komodo.Child dies afterwards, yet you give the Bovine more respect?

When I look at the actions of humans worldwide, I don't get all warm and fuzzy inside, to be honest. Sure, the bovine occassionally gets more respect from time to time.

Been an awesome discussion, very thought-provoking, but I'm not one to persist an argument.
