L046 pleco setup

Yes, past tense now as they sold!

But I’m not a supplier or a business so I do not have shipping rates at discounted prices. I once quoted overnight air freight to one province away (I’m in Canada) and was quoted between $250-$300 CAN. And international shipping is out of the question.

How shy are the zebra plecos? Do they hide all day, or are they visible at least some of the time?

I normally don’t see mine. The males claim a cave and you see their tails, females find either empty caves or rock crevices to hide in.

I see them so rarely that I can hardly count them. I know I have either 7 or 8 in my tank ?

I ended up losing 2/25 zebras. Then a sold 9 leabing me 14. At that time (last Oct.) I had recent fry in the tank. Not sure who the parents were so I may have sent them in the 9. I have been seeing new tiny fry on and off during maint. All my other Hypans are spawning as well.

I am not sure if I mentioned this before or not relative to moving fry into grow tanks. I as well as other breeder i have known over the years belive that baby zebras need to acquire a gut microbe from the poop of older fish. It need not be from a relative just another fish which has them. So what I do and suggest others do when setting up a new grow tank it to move some adult poop from the larger fish into the new grow tank along with the fry. I do this at least twice to insure the process works ass desired.

When breeding is going along well I do not send out all of the fish in a grow tank at once. I have an "assembly line" with new fry going in and bigger ones going out the other end. This means there should always be poop from older fish in the grow tank for the new fry. It sort of like cycling a tank only the bacteria wanted are digestive not nitrifying. One the bacteria is in the system because it is always in some of the fish, more poop from the breeder tank is not needed.

Many years back there were discussions about whether breeders got better growth in the breeding tank or a grow tank or di it not matter. Mosst folks reported the best growth from offspring left in the breeder tank. Since one can feed fry the same food in either tank what was definitely in the breeder tank but not a grow tank was adult poop.

I have never found anything in the scientific literature to support this belief beyond anecdotal evidence.

All of the bn fry in the zebra tank have been evicted! Only shrimp and zebras remain. Hopefully they decide it’s worth their time to breed again now!!

move also added an additional power head.

mans here’s a updated pictures of one ticked off zebra. They were not happy that I dismantled their tank to remove the bn fry. They were out an a little in a fury. But this was a great presentation for a photo

Haven’t had many updates to post.

since moving about a month ago my male has had two clutches of eggs back to back. He ate one batch. This batch is currently wrigglers in his cave. They are with the bigger brothers and sisters that have made the move from a previous batch.
I counted 9 babies about the one inch mark and I’m not sure how many wrigglers he has in the cave, another 9/10?
