Some experts ithyologists think the L-114 and L-600 are indeed the same fish. I don't really know. I had an L-114 that was 6 inches and I recently aquired a 6 inch L-25 and the L-114 knocked the shibby out of my L-25. I had to get rid of one and ended up keeping the scarlet. I do miss the L-114 though. Whatever that pleco is it is awesome. Enjoy it. Just watch other plecos with it. They can really kick some AZZ!
I think the big guy might just be a L-600 after looking at the differences and listening to rory_068's description of the two. What do you think Ctoychik? You told me to post pics, I hope I have'nt gone too far and hijacked your thread. Hoping to help you be sure with your ID too.
Don't worry about the thread. Post as necessary. I am curious about the difference. I go by the spot size and regularity of the pattern. IMO L600 has a very uniform pattern spread and spots' shape. Also, from looking at differences in L114 (from planetcatfish) it appears that there is difference in amount of "orange" on the tail as well (it appears that L600 got more of it)
Some other info I was given today: I was told that the L-600 generally does'nt have spots on the head. Also the L-114 will have the spotted pattern at the very end of the tail fin, While the L-600 will have a solid red/orange band across the very back of the tailfin. I am just repeating what I was told, but it's making sense to me looking at some pics.
after seeing this video of L25 i am very encouraged about mine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgCwI-zkanM hmmm i wonder how serious that type of fighting is though ... i was hoping to combine the L25 and 600 when 25 grows a bit ...
