Sorry I was not more clear, I do not have overflow boxes and the actual drains themselves are 2.5", my bulkhead/strainer reduces it to 1.5" with 1.5" pvc running to the sump. I have two such drains and would like to run two pumps on my 360, which two lagunas should I get? The 225 will also have 2.5" drains and I will be using the same bulkhead/strainer combo.
here's how the bulkheads look: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?465590-Bulkheads-Leaking-HELP!
The Youtube video in the thread you linked to is set to private so I couldn't see it, but if your plumbing is reduced to 1.5" PVC, I would still say 2 Laguna Max Flo 2000s are your best bet. Assuming 5' of head, they would give you 8X turnovers per hour.
I think if you want more flow, you would have to use larger plumbing on your drains.
I had been using a Mag 18 for the last 12 years on a bank of tanks, and the 18 finally died. After reading about the Lugunas. I decided to try the 2400.
It is very quiet compared to the Mag, and flow is a bit stronger at about 5 ft of head (as it should be)
my only minor problem with the laguna is it is not really set up to use PVC, and I had to do a bit of goofing around to get it set up to my already hard piped system.
I have not noticed a change in electric usage.
If you are paying the national average for electricity ($0.11KWHr), you should be saving around $5 per month if you are running the Next Generation 2400 that consumes 84 watts or ~$3.50 per month if you are running the (older) pre-2012 model that consumes 100 watts.
