go back for the bowfin

nice catches
where is lake fork exactly?

Not very often do you come up empty handed, when your in water that shallow and the gar and carp are surrounded by reeds they don't really panic much. The carp are way way more skiddish then the gar though which is why we only landed 2 of those and at least 15-20 gar. Lake Ford is east of dallas near emory, TX and sulphur springs, TX.

did you eat any of them?
Is there a size limit?
Who's boat is that? Sweet catches!

Not very impressed by your handling of those fish. All those gars in the net bent up like that-very bad. Plus never hold a carp like that-will really damage them by putting pressure on their organs.

In his defense :) In america, carp is considered as a pest, I'm glad they didn't just throw them on the shore as most people normally do. Of couse they could have handled them more gently. In Europe, carps are considered as a sports fish, where in America, most are speared and discarded, rarely if ever eaten.

The gars, if I'm not mistaken, they weren't purposely placed in the nets that way, but they were caught by being netted, and at that size, they were in a bent position, but as tough as they are, I'm sure they were returned safely, and probably non of them died or suffered more than a days worth of psychological trauma.

Hey guys, if you ever catch a gold one or a pure white one, or albino, let me know, I'll fly down there to get it!

Koiguy: Nope we didnt eat any of them, I practice catch and release 90% of the time unless we are fishing for crappie or channel cats for food purposes to begin with. I don't know many people who eat carp and even fewer who eat gar; however I've heard gar isnt that bad. Grandfathers boat, he was initially supposed to go with us but ended up having to work on some other stuff instead of going fishing.

Jakethesnake: We didn't intentionally harm any of the fish. Like fugupuff stated we caught them initially in the net (hence my original statement of our unorthidox techniques on that trip :)) and they were released into the floorboard of the boat right after that picture for us to untangle them, take more pics, then release them as quickly as possible. I would rather boga grip them for a quick picture and release them instead of handling them bare handed where I would remove sizeable portions of their slime coat. I do understand your concern though however because I realize carp are a prized sportfish in england and much of europe and I respect the fact that I could have handled them a little more gently but at the time I was excited and in a hurry to get pics and get them back in the water asap. Gar and Carp are both extremely durable sportfish and I have no doubts that all fish caught that weekend will make a full healthy recovery after being netted and photographed.

Fugu if I catch a gold, albino, or xanthic one, you'll have to fight me for it because if I have the tank space its going in my tank first :) ~Trent

How did 3 fish end up in the net @ once?
You just put them there temporarily?
Did the net break?
Those gar looked real young.

Have you thought of catching shiners, shad, minnows & eels?

What a great time. Glad you returned the fish safely.
