I was useing a silver J-plug, we were trolling for salmon.

Freswater Drum offten eat lures.

Thanks. Unusual looking fish reminds me of a bass x Carp hybrid. If such a thing was possible

That Drum is huge. I don't know that much about deep water native fish. Is that in the carp family?.

You used lures?.

Many people don't know that drum are a close relative to the ever popular satlwater redfish.

drum of lake MI eat two main things crawfish and other fish, thus they are not the trash eaters everyone says they are.
They aren't trash eaters, they are trash fish. It Means that they are not good to eat, and annoying to catch when you are after other target species like walleye, salmon, perch, bass...exc. Trash fish are throw backs.

30'' that is a cow!!!!

I saw a flash of brown when I was fighting him, and I thought Brown Trout. I would be lieing if I said I was not disapointed when we saw it was a Drum, but it still faught good.
I was happy too, as it is my biggest Freshwater Drum to date.
I just would have been happier with a 30" Brown Trout.

I have eaten Freshwater Drum before, they taste good and you can flett them so there are no bones in the meat. The only problem with them I noticed is the texture seems slightly rubbery.

Otherwise they are good, but in Lake Michigan you need to worry about PCB'S. So I would not eat a big Drum like this one or a big Brown Trout for that matter.

drum are not deep water native fish no its not very closly related to a carp as carp are not native.

I wasn't trying to be mean, I like mutlispecies tamer he catches some big salmon, and knows alot about fishing. He catches alot, but they arn't called trash fish because of their diet.

I hate Drum, everytime they hit I think I have a massive walleye and to find out it is a drum in the end sucks. imo, but thats fishing and believe me I have caught some MONSTER Drum!! I've heard the back meat is good, although I have never had them, it is just known as a trash fish and is undesirable for most. You don't hear many people say, "hey lets go find a school of monster drum." or lets enter that drum tournament. lol PCB doesn't scare me if I die from eating great lakes fish so be it. It can't be any worse than someone that is smoking cigs everyday.

The same can be said about Dogfish, you think you have a big Bass & it turns out to be a Bowfin, or if you somehow hook a gar in the side of the mouth or its fleshy tip on the end of the mouth. On the discharges of Lake Michigan sometimes a Carp will eat your shad rap. It suck tring to get the two trebble hooks out of the carps throat. You think you have a big Salmon or Trout.

I'm not tring to be mean eather but enjoy the fight, be mad only if you are in a turnament & money is on the line.

I like ceatching everything, some fish I prefer over others but I am always happy with a good fight. Also I hope one day to ceatch every kind of fish in North America. That gets over 5" long, & can be caught on hook & line.
