I wasn't trying to be mean, I like mutlispecies tamer he catches some big salmon, and knows alot about fishing. He catches alot, but they arn't called trash fish because of their diet.

I hate Drum, everytime they hit I think I have a massive walleye and to find out it is a drum in the end sucks. imo, but thats fishing and believe me I have caught some MONSTER Drum!! I've heard the back meat is good, although I have never had them, it is just known as a trash fish and is undesirable for most. You don't hear many people say, "hey lets go find a school of monster drum." or lets enter that drum tournament. lol PCB doesn't scare me if I die from eating great lakes fish so be it. It can't be any worse than someone that is smoking cigs everyday.
I once was on the south haven pier and they were having a drum tournament. They were all fishing live bait (alewives) and I was fishing crawlers to bad i wasnt in the tournament as I caught the biggest drum of the day out there a 16-20 pound hog. A few guys offered me money for it but I wouldnt have felt right so it was released.

I have heard drum are very good eating fish, No I have never ate one to confirm this tho. The Hispanics sure like them they keep them by the cooler full.

I would enter that sounds like fun, something different. haha I figured there would have to be a drum tourny somewhere, they get aweful big. Heck we have perch tournys here and they don't even get big. Your story reminds me of the time my Dad and I were in Rhode Island and we brought in a big blue fish. The guy at the bait stand goes please tell me your in the tournament... My dad goes what tournament..lol They guy said ours was 4 pounds bigger than the largest weighed so far, and the tournament was all of New England. We were just casting offshore with big plugs too. As I remember it was 17pounds, not sure maybe a salty guy can clear that up but I think it is pretty big. haha Would of won a nice prize I'm sure.
