Landlord not allowing me to keep my tank.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sounds to me like this would be the final straw.. legal action.. and find a new apartment before filing... some people are nasty and wouldn't think twice about hurting your fish as retaliation... persuing legal action isn't going to make living there any easier either. Once you sue someone there will be hostility.

Have they seen your tanks?? Just show them your festaes and how much they mean to you...let them know these are very rare fish and they are apart of the family...it has to be something you guys can come up with without taking legal action

As a landlord I do not allow pets of any type without an additional fee. Reason is potentials damages to the house. Cat/dogs urine, poo, hair, scratching, bite mark. odor. Carpet are always infested with hair and need deep cleaning or replacing... With fish there's also risk for leaks, crack tanks, water damages. Small tanks I don't mind but can you imagine 55 gallon spilling onto the floor.

That's understandable but shouldn't i been given something in writing before moving in or renewing our lease something in writing stating a limit.

Most landlords have this mentality and I can't say I blame them.. but the OP was told his fish where fine.. and now they are changing their minds. breaking a contract on either side is never a decent good thing to do. As a pet owner is was costly to keep our pets because a lot of landlords are against pets.. which was fine. we found places that allowed pets. I have a feeling the OP would have made moving arrangements when the new owner took over had he been told he would not be allowed to keep his fish or any fish for that matter.

can you imagine 1kgallons flooding your basement? lol yes water damage is very possible and if tanks are improperly cared for even more so.

Just more drive to get your own place and stop paying rent... and start building equity ;)

this suck man im sorry, my grandma owns acouple of apartments and we have never had a problem with people keeping pets, and i acctually want someone to have monster fish but no one dose..... anyways they really should have told you what you can and cant keep in the apartment, i can see why they wouldnt want a fish tank in the second floor but on ground level? i hope this all works out man i couldnt imagine having to let go of my tanks!

This is exactly my point. They failed to provide any documents stating the change or anything about it. I will moving out and suing them.
