Lapradei in a 40 breeder

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Your lap always looks nice, doesnt look cramped at all, but 5" larger it will look a little cramped.
Get it some black sand, my lap is getting sooooo dark, i love it, hasnt eaten yet though.

ps. the tank really is 40g, not 45. The thickness of the glass matey.;)

Thank you. Yeah, I can't wait til she grows five more inches.

I'm definitely going to do that with the sand the week after next. :D

What is said should be forbidden, should be stated in the MFK rules.

Do not tell or suggest that a fellow members tank is smaller than he says in any way.

Its like telling a man his thing is small..

I don't care if it's 45g or 40g (I thought it was 40), I just think they should include glass thickness in the little 'conversions' tool we have here for us. :D

dont get black sand IMO unless you wanna see a dark grayish green lap :D

stump i think i see 180 and lots of endlis and laps in ur future just saying. and dont tell me that your house is too old, i believe you have something called a bottom floor which is built on i believe ROCK :D

Black substrates/bottom will only make it look like it's been rolled over some charcoal. That's why I don't really like black substrates. Brown can have the same effects, but with dark tan or red it will turn the patterns to florescent green and have a balance base color of golden brown, tan yellow, greyish green or olive or any of this mixes. I also tried blue as Fishn'Cash suggested before and I don't like the result. It made my ansorgii pale, it looses the florescent green patterns of my laps and turned it to dark brown and paled out my CB endlis. Some of my newly introduced bichirs don't even color up.

As far as my experment of tuning up my bichirs colors, I like dark tan and red.
Right now my 375g tank have total of 155 lbs of sand which have mix of 70 lbs of red, 40 lbs tan, 25 lbs brown and 20 lbs of black.

Now my substrates looks like this. (just a preview not full tank shot yet as some of my new bichirs are skinny and pale)

Well... My bottom floor is my basement. My basement's floor is earth. :D
Also my basement is a place where I do what I can to not have to go down to. It's so dirty and "old". It would take a lot of work from me to get it to a clean, comfortable setting. I'm sure a 4x2x2 would help (i've decided this is going to be my next tank purchase).

Believe me, i'm going to do what I can to get a bigger tank down the road, but where i'm living right now, and the budget of having no job, it's going to be a while. Maybe by years end I will have something better.

Thanks, Earl. I am growing fond of the red sand now. I think that would be the best color for the 55g. If I was going to go black I might as well leave it barebottom. I'm thinking 100% red or a 80% red, 20% black combo.

Time will tell. I'm sure I'll change my mind a couple of times. :D
