thanks for the detailed answer, I figured that was the case. Cool that it could be clamped and still work like that.

great looking tank, btw. You've definitely given me something else to think about if and hopefully when I can build a monster tank.

I'm also so some search on how to build something like this ...
What I have in mine are an 8L x 4W x 2Tall
1/2" all around...
My concerned is the top braces...

Will 2 each 6"x96" for front and back, 4 each 6"x47" = 1 for each end and 2 mid way in the middle. In another word, i will have 6" brace all around the top plus 2 6"x47" pieces running from front to back space out in the middle of the tank. Will it be enough? I just don't want to get another 8x4 if i don't have to. I'm trying to work with 3 pieces of 8x4x.5 . This will be around $1500 for the tank or $3 per gal. :)

I would do 6 braces front to back... 2 on each side and four evenly spaced in the middle... all 8" wide... It wont cost you much more, but will add alot more strength to the tank... Its going to bow regardless of how you brace it though... Mine is only 20" tall and bows slightly.

If you dont build that tank for $3/gal, you'd be crazy... I was quoted at around $9-14/gal depending on who i went with, for just the bare tank... shipping included..
I completed my tank for about $7/gal... that included tank,tops,filters,pumps,lights,heaters,stand,ect....

Great vids Joe! I hope you start building tanks as at least a side business if you aren't already. I would pay you to make me one. You have really inspired me to give this a try.

Thanks nick, i might eventually build tanks for others. Right now, i do sell filters(wet/drys,sumps,ect..) i enjoy building/designing them...

Give it a shot, its well worth it... use all of the resources on this site, and on others.. only thing you need is a good source for acrylic and your half way done.

wow you are incredible man. And just in case you are thirsty... no need to go to the kitchen when you can just turn to the right with a straw.

Does anyone know where in the Bay Area Ca. can you get acrylic sheets for low price? I would like to be able to pick them up and save quite a bit of $. The lowest one was 4 @ $379 each but not local. most of the local including Tap run around $440 and up for each 8x4x.5. I would like to get 4 pieces that's way i could have the top panel in 1 piece for added strength (that's what make the tank strong) and the extras will be for the overflow etc... I could get away with 3 sheets but with the tank being 4 ft wide I just don't feel safe with just so little braces on the perimeter and centers. Thanks

Those prices are better than what i paid if they include cutting costs and taxes... you wont find much better than that i dont think..

nice. looks great
